We used a refrigerator box that was shortened by approximately 1/3 for our models, although any large appliance box would work just as well. Tip: Boxes with Distracting Text
To maximize your child's play activity, each side of the box should have an opening. Ideally, the box should also have a lid. It will help stabilize the castle when under siege. Tip: Boxes with No Lids
If you are going to paint the box, position the sheets on each side as suggested in the plans, then outline where they will be in pencil. Paint everywhere but where the sheets will be. One bottle (1 litre/16 oz.) of powdered Tempra paint should be enough. Large (old) paintbrushes work best; there is a lot of area to cover. Tip: Why to Use Tempra Paint
For windows and arrow loops (the narrow openings which go vertically), apply the sheets to the box sides with curls of masking tape, then using the knife, carefully poke through both layers of sheet and cardboard where indicated by the dotted line and continue by cutting out each opening. Later, to secure them more permanently, you may want to use white glue. The window that hinges will work best if you slightly score the cardboard from the inside.
For the drawbridge, center the stone framework (arch) sheet up on the castle wall and tape in place. Then from the ends of the arch, draw a line with pencil straight down to the floor. Cut this opening out. Make a hinge for the drawbridge by taping flaps of cardboard at the bottom on each side and then tape the bottom of the door to these. Tip: Door Jambs and Anchor Points
The bearded man can now be applied to the front of the drawbridge door, and the two torches placed on either side. The gargoyles can also go up at the top on the four sides.
"Everet" our fearless knight, "Everlene" the fair princess and the grass strips can now be placed around the bottom as suggested in the photos. Tip: Using Grass to Maximum Effect
The Everbuild coat of arms and crossed weapons are two sheets that can go inside.
The Everbuild flag can now be cut out, stiffened with cardboard, and taped to a wood dowel. Fly it proudly over your palace.
The extra stones can be used and any other artwork (drawings, pictures from magazines, etc.) added for the best palace ever, because after all, you built it!
