Boxes with Distracting Text

If the text on the outside of the box is too distracting, turn the box inside out. Simply pull the sides apart at a seam and then hot glue or tape them back together after reversing. Boxes may also come with flaps. If yours does, have these at the bottom by turning the box upside down. They help keep the box square. Cutting them down makes it easier to work with.

Directing Helpful Kid Energy

As we know, kids want to help or do things on their own, so to avoid problems, give them a job like cutting out the different fairy tale cottage elements from the various sheets while you're doing the major construction work.

Boxes with No Lids

If the box lid is missing or damaged beyond repair, you can make a new one.

Why to Use Tempra Paint

Tempra paints dry very quickly so you should be able to apply sheets almost immediately after painting.

How to Utilize the Box

Make your stage as high as you can without sacrificing the strength of the box. We obtained a height of 28 3/4" on the box we used to allow lots of room below for the puppeteers to work without being seen. Cut the red curtains out and using curls of tape, centre them on the vertical lines that frame the stage opening. Cut the opening out for the stage by following the contour of the curtains along each side and then following the line you drew across the top and bottom of the opening. To complete the facade, cut out the Everbuild stage front and the crowd scene and fasten them across the front with curls of tape.

Door Hinges

Remember to make sure the stage door hinges from the front of the box. The stage opening is created by cutting an 11" x 17" opening in the door approximately 4" down from the top and each side. This piece of cardboard can now be used for the marquee! Using curls of tape, apply the approximate scenery (ocean, space or haunted house) below the stage. We painted the area above the stage blue to suggest a skyline.
